Emma Approved, Rachel Approved

I’m such a big fan of Hank Green for so many reasons, but the one I’d like to mention today is his production of several web adaptations of Jane Austen novels. I remember watching the video he posted when the idea was just that- an idea. He said he’d been thinking about how cool it would be to have Pride and Prejudice modernized in the form of a webseries. And he did it. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries was born, and it was a huge success. It won an Emmy! After LBD ended, Sanditon started. It wasn’t my favorite, but it was a cool idea to take Gigi Darcy and make her the protagonist in Austen’s unfinished novel.

I really loved LBD, but I think I might like the newest adaptation even more. Emma Approved is the new Emma. She’s a modern-day life coach with a fabulous blog. While LBD was always kind of a test run, Emma Approved has the benefit of coming after all the kinks have been worked out. The production is great, as is the quality of the set, the clothes, and the Twitter interaction. These Austen adaptations are a great example of a webseries done right. Emma Approved is still putting out new episodes, so it’s not too late to get caught up!
