As far as family vacations go, it’s a bit of a nuisance that Mizzou’s spring break doesn’t align with Auburn’s. But when it comes to visiting friends, it’s been pretty great. I’ve come down to Auburn on my spring break in the past, but this year, my friends came to me.
My roommate and I took them down to Cooper’s Landing, which is a part-time dock, part-time music venue. We also went to Rock Bridge State Park, where we showed them some of Missouri’s caves.
In the short time that they were here, they got a tour of campus, a brunch at the biscuit truck, a foreign film at Ragtag Cinemas, and dollar burgers from Campus Bar and Grill. We welcomed them with a party at our house and sent them off with a breakfast-for-dinner horror movie screening. (It occurred to us a day later that we probably should have shown them You’re Next, which was filmed in Columbia, but we ended up renting it the next day and watching it ourselves.) We did more in one long weekend than I’ve done this whole semester.
I only have one more year to call Columbia my home, and I’m glad that that my friends were able to come up and see it on their spring break. My next goal is to get someone up here during True/False so I can really show off this city.
